We did not make these. We looked for the best dog waste bag we could find, tested a few, and this is the one we carry.

EcoSafe's leash dispenser roll holds 18 bags made from plant-based material rather than petroleum plastic. They are certified compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute to the ASTM D6400 standard, which means they break down in an industrial composting facility within 14 to 60 days. At 9 by 13 inches they are generously sized, easy to tie off, and puncture and tear resistant. The roll fits standard leash dispensers, so it clips onto what you already carry.

Worth knowing before you buy. Whether these bags actually get composted depends entirely on your municipality. Many organics programs across Canada accept certified compostable pet waste bags, and where they do, these do exactly what the certification says. Some cities do not: a number of programs screen out every bag during processing, compostable ones included, and a few require paper liners instead. Your city's waste guide will tell you in a sentence, and it is worth the thirty seconds.

Where compostable bags are not accepted, the honest reason to choose these is the material itself: a bag made from plants rather than fossil-fuel plastic. That is a smaller claim than the one on the label, and we would rather you hear it from us.

Sold as a single roll. Certified for sale in Canada only.

Plants, not Plastic

We didn't make these. We went looking for the best bag we could find, and this is the one we carry.

  • Made from Plants

A plant-based film instead of the polyethylene most bags are made from. Unscented, 9 by 13 inches, thick enough to tie off without worrying.

  • Certified

BPI certified to ASTM D6400, which means an industrial composting facility breaks them down in 14 to 60 days. A real standard, independently verified.

  • Check your city, though

Some municipalities accept compostable bags in their organics, and some screen out every bag regardless. Your local waste guide will tell you in a sentence.
